CI/CD secret rotation for SMEs: reduce the impact of a leak

SMEs do not need a huge platform to protect CI/CD secrets: they need an inventory, least privilege, verified rotation and revocation plan.

A leaked secret is not fixed by deleting a commit

SMEs should inventory tokens, owners, consumers, permissions and revocation steps. Never document the secret value; document its scope and replacement process.

  • Separate development, testing and production
  • Use least privilege per service
  • Keep secrets out of logs and artifacts
  • Test replacement before revocation
  • Maintain an emergency response procedure

If exposure is suspected, revoke first, review usage, issue a limited replacement and record the corrective action.

Blurtek can review your CI/CD pipelines, permissions and secret handling.
